When NASA released its pictures of the thing in space called 3I/ATLAS people on the internet got really excited. The internet started talking about it a lot. People had a lot of different ideas, about what 3I/ATLAS is.
Alien probes. Secret technology. A threat heading straight for Earth.
So the dust. The scientists started to tell us what was really going on. The thing that was actually confirmed was not about aliens or any kind of danger. It was something different. The scientists were talking about the confirmation of something and that something was not about aliens or danger at all. The real confirmation was, about something and it was interesting to hear the scientists explain what the real confirmation of this thing was.
This thing made me think of something I know well and that is actually more disturbing.
It is another visitor from deep space. This thing comes from far away in deep space. The visitor is something that we do not see every day it is, from space.
The new pictures of 3I/ATLAS show something moving fast. This thing has all the signs of an object that came from another star system. It is not a shape. It does not move in a line. The 3I/ATLAS object looks like it is made of rock and ice. The rock and ice of 3I/ATLAS have been floating around between stars, for billions of years.
To put it simply this thing is not made by people who design and build things. It is the way the digital camera is. The digital camera is not engineered.
The car is not steering.
It is not coming for the people, like us.
For anyone who was hoping or maybe a little scared that this would be the proof we need to show that there is intelligence that is not, from humans that hope just faded away with every single picture that NASA put out.
So what is the bad news then?
The fear that these images confirm is not that we are in danger. These images are actually showing us something. The thing that is really scary about these images is what they are telling us about the world. The fear that these images confirm is that something is very wrong, with the world.
The universe does not really care about us. The universe is like that it does not have any feelings. We are a small part of the universe. The universe is indifferent, to what we do.
3I/ATLAS is what the scientists thought it would be. Another object from outside our solar system like 3I/ATLAS and the one before it ‘Oumuamua. It is passing by our part of space by luck. The 3I/ATLAS object does not have any message, for us. It does not have any plan. The 3I/ATLAS object is not even aware that we are here.
That realization is really tough to deal with. It hits you harder than any science fiction story you can think of. The reality of the situation is what makes it so difficult to accept. That is what makes this realization about reality so much harder, than any science fiction scenario.
We are not special and space keeps proving that space is not special just because we are a part of it. Space keeps showing us that we are really not that special all. The more we learn about space the more we see that space is like everything else, in the universe and that is what space keeps proving. Space keeps proving it over and again that we are not special.
Every time we get a visitor from another star system it reminds us that our solar system is not a closed off place. The solar system is like a hallway that things can pass through. Things are always passing through the system they are like leftovers from star systems that are really far away. We will never get to visit these star systems and we will never really understand them. The interstellar visitors and the leftovers, from these star systems are always passing through the solar system.
When you look at the pictures from NASA you do not see anything that is going to hurt us.. What these pictures from NASA do show is just how small the Earth is and that is a pretty amazing thing to think about. The images from NASA make you realize that we are really not that big when you consider the universe and that is something to think about when you look at the pictures, from NASA.
This object went around another star. It was okay, after a long time of getting hit with bad radiation and bumping into things. The object traveled a long way to get here. Then it just went past Earth without seeing us. This object did all that. It did not even notice the Earth was there.
This is the fear that people have, inside them the kind of fear that makes you think about your life and what it means. Many people feel this fear. They do not talk about it out loud. It is the fear that people have. It is very quiet the existential fear that many people have.
The internet wanted a monster so science. Made it real. This is what the internet wanted a monster and that is what science delivered a real monster. The internet got what it wanted a monster that's real thanks, to science.
The difference between what we hope for and what actually happens is where sadness and letdowns are. We were looking for something that would give our life meaning. We wanted to know why things are the way they're. We wanted something that would show us that we matter that someone or something acknowledges the existence of people, like us that acknowledges us.
So we were expecting something from 3I/ATLAS. What did we get? Nothing. 3I/ATLAS gave us silence. Complete silence, from 3I/ATLAS.
Science did it again it chose to be honest of trying to be exciting. Science picked honesty over excitement. That is really something. Science is, about being truthful and science did just that.
No secret maneuvers.
No artificial signals.
No reason to panic.
Just data.
Why These Images Still Matter
The thing about 3I/ATLAS is that it is really important. We do not need any drama to make 3I/ATLAS special. When we see an object like 3I/ATLAS it is like getting something for free. This interstellar object is like a sample from another star system. 3I/ATLAS carries clues about how planetsre formed in other parts of the galaxy. These clues are important because they tell us about 3I/ATLAS and interstellar objects, like 3I/ATLAS.
Discovery is not always a deal. It does not always happen with a lot of excitement. Sometimes discovery happens when we find out that the universe works in ways. The universe has rules. It does not change them just to make our lives more interesting. Discovery is, about finding out that the universe plays by these rules.
What we were all afraid of is finally being said loud. The thing that we all feared is now being talked about openly. We all feared something like this would happen. Now it is being said out loud. The thing that we all feared is finally out, in the open.
The fear wasn’t invasion.
It wasn’t destruction.
It was not aliens who were watching us.
It was this:
The universe does not care if we are watching it. The universe is just going to keep on doing what it does. That is something that the universe does every day because the universe does not care about us watching the universe.
NASAs pictures of 3I/ATLAS show us that space is really big and really old. It does not care about us. We have to make our meaning in life. It does not come from the stars. NASAs pictures of 3I/ATLAS are a reminder of this. Space is huge. It has been around, for a very long time. NASAs pictures of 3I/ATLAS help us understand that we have to find our meaning.
