Astronaut Edgar Mitchell's wife shares her UFO experiences

The widow of a renowned NASA astronaut has revealed captivating details about the extraordinary encounters he claimed to have had with UFOs and extraterrestrial phenomena.

Exploring the vastness of  space  is an incomparable adventure, an experience reserved for a select few. These people have witnessed things most can barely imagine.

But what about unidentified flying objects? According to the wife of an Apollo astronaut, her husband frequently spoke of these  mysterious encounters  during his missions beyond Earth.

Anita Mitchell was married to the late Edgar Mitchell, the illustrious astronaut who, in 1971, became the sixth person to walk on the Moon. In an interview with the  Daily Mail  , she revealed that her husband often told stories of inexplicable and intriguing observations he made in space.

“He always believed that UFOs were real,” Anita recalled, “because so many  pilots  and astronauts reported seeing unexplainable things.”

She also mentioned that some of Edgar's fellow astronauts, including Apollo mission member James McDivitt, described witnessing unusual objects—some appearing to be advanced spacecraft—during their travels.

A particularly compelling account came from Project Mercury astronaut Leroy Gordon Cooper Jr., who once attended a dinner party at the Mitchells' house.

"I remember Gordy telling us over dinner at our house that he had seen something unusual," Anita said. "He told us, 'We don't have anything that moves that fast or reaches those altitudes.'" Cooper, a pioneer of  space exploration  , participated in the Mercury and Gemini programs.

Over the years, Anita collected so many amazing stories from astronauts that she decided to compile them into a book titled "  You Don't Look Like an Astronaut's Wife  ." She was married to Edgar from 1973 to 1984, and he passed away in 2016.

Throughout his life, Edgar Mitchell was a staunch advocate of  UFO disclosure  and insisted on the existence of  extraterrestrial life. He repeatedly urged the U.S. government to release any classified information related to alien encounters.

In 2009, as reported by  The Guardian  , Mitchell made a bold statement calling for transparency: “We are being visited. The time has come to lift the veil of secrecy surrounding the alien presence. I urge our government to reveal the truth and join the global community in recognizing our place as an emerging spacefaring civilization.”

Beyond UFOs, Mitchell firmly believed that humanity's survival depended on space expansion.

"The Sun will eventually burn out," he warned. "If our species is to survive, we must venture beyond this planet. This moment in human history marks the beginning of our journey beyond Earth, and eventually beyond our solar system, to discover what is truly out there."

Anita Mitchell shares her late husband's perspective, commenting: "Do you really think we're the only intelligent life in the universe? If so, that would be a pretty bleak outlook for the cosmos."

After his career at NASA, Edgar Mitchell founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences, an organization dedicated to the study of  paranormal phenomena  and  consciousness  .

His work delved into experiments on extrasensory perception and even telekinetic abilities, cementing his reputation as an innovative scientist determined to explore the unknown limits of human potential.
